While refueling today at Reading, PA on a long cross-country solo flight, I talked with the guy behind the desk at Millennium Aviation. We were just talking about fuel prices and how they were so variable and we got off topic about the possibility of doing a transcontinental US flight in a little Cessna. You know, NY to LA and stopping at little airstrips along the way to experience local attractions and restaurants while keeping a real time blog and displaying GPS positions on a map online as well as posting some pics. Kind of like an airborne version of Easy Rider without Jack Nicholson and getting killed by hillbillies. It's been an idea in the back of my mind since I was in hs, but little did I know then about the planning, costs, and time in the air that it would take. Not to mention the Rockies which kind of get in the way; mountain wave turbulence and having to climb to 14,000ft and needing oxygen. My instructor tells me this could be done in as little as 33hrs. Of course weather permitting and planning a stop every 3 hrs to top off the tanks to stretch.

Well when one thing leads to another and then to yet another.....we got on the Idea of getting sponsorship and perhaps doing the entire trip for a cause. Find a non-profit charitable organization to sponsor the trip, pay for an aircraft and allow individuals to purchase "miles," and get a t-shirt. Wouldn't that be neat? Thing is I'd want it to be for something that is a little less mainstream like AIDS or breast cancer. I'm sure I'll think of something.

Meanwhile I'm back to the favorable location of the sofa waiting for laundry, surfing channels. Just watched some environmental documentary on the green channel about the Danish island of Samso that is entirely off the grid using windmills, solar, and biomass for electricity.

My arms and hands ache from my first 18 holes of golf in 5 years. I remember why it's been 5 years, the game is frustrating and takes all day. Although I did manage to shoot a 109 which isn't too terrible either. I'd much rather play chess...

Mr. Kitty (we've found out it's male finally.) is all over the place, hitting the TV, batting the pointer on my laptop screen, and sticking to my jeans like velcro.

Excited, going to visit friends in Geneva at HWS tomorrow, yay! And then flying to Tokyo on Monday, YAY!. Just Japan for a month, then back to the states in Oct. Sign up for a Kaplan or Princeton Review GRE classroom course and will be busy filling out graduate school apps.

Really looking into UC Merced's Environmental Systems degree. I'm also looking at others: SD State, USF (actually meet admissions requirements here!), UCD, UCSB, ASU, U Arizona, and Singapore's NUS (Prof. Magee's idea.....) Hawaii at Manoa.
